The Pup Head: Dog Potty Review

pup head dog pottyThe PupHead

The PupHead is currently #1 in #2. I met Theresa (the woman who came up with the product) recently and her goals are to make products that work for the dogs–and their people.

The special antimicrobial blend in the grass helps fight odors, which in turn creates a safer, cleaner environment for the pets. The weaved style back also provides for instant drainage. This helps fight odors and so provides a safer, cleaner environment for the pets who use it.

A new addition to the line is the Pup-Pad.™ Made with Microfine fibers and antimicrobial technology, these are absorbent, odor-controlling pads (18” x 28”) quickly absorbs and holds liquid. There is an antimicrobial agent in the fabric to eliminates odors and it is reusable and guaranteed for 300 washes.

Pup-Head is very low and almost level with the ground. It also comes with an attractant scent to make it irresistible to dogs. Pup-Head is easy to clean and weighs less than 5 lbs. Replacement pads or grass will last the lifetime of the product during normal use and it is a perfect solution for boating enthusiasts with dogs.

It is light-weight, portable, easy to clean, and just the right size for my small breed dog.

Pup Head Dog Potty Tips
Any housebreaking or house training efforts require training and this is especially true if you want your dog to use a specific toilet.

The easiest strategy is to put the dog toilet over a spot that it regularly uses outside and the transition the dog potty indoors.

Most dogs will not want to soil inside the home so be patient. The artificial turf is not as soft as natural sod and sometimes the dog needs to be trained to be comfortable with it.

Ideally, keep your pet on leash when you take them to the potty. This prevents distraction and limits the distance they can move away from the dog potty.

Also, take the time to get the pet used to the new surface by letting them explore it and walk on it.

Immediately after the pet does his or her business on the dog potty surface, praise–you might also give a treat. This helps any pet get the point faster.

Keep it clean! One of the biggest reasons pets refuse to use a house training device is because it is dirty. Rinse out the tray and artificial turf with soap and water once a day or every other day.

When we asked around the general advice was that pet owners recommended buying at least four absorbent pads for the large sized potty and two for the regular ones for the normal sized potty. Doing this allows them to be rotated during cleaning. Most pet owners suggested air drying them but you can use a dryer.

My dog took to the PupHead potty right away. Something about the grass just made it natural for her. I’ve written more and posted a photo with my dog.

Thanks for sharing your review Pam. I find that some dogs prefer the faux grass while others really don’t care. It often comes down to what the owner finds palatable. I am sorry to hear that your dog had a negative experience–in most cases that can be corrected through training but is a good illustration of how some things can go awry.
